A Very Stylish Girl

As most of you know I was onFashion Bomb a couple of days ago and there were a lot of negative commentsabout my “hammer pants” jumpsuit. Overall the response was good and this is definitelynot backlash, but I think I finally understand what some other bloggers issueswith flattery are. About 90% of mygarments I pick for style and flattery, but sometimes there are some thingsthat I love, that I find stylish, and that I want to wear. I think today’s outfit was kind of rebelliontowards flattery. I have wide hips, soto wear a dress that is going to make them look wider is a “no no” in manypeople’s opinion and really in my own opinion 90% of the time. But at the end of the day, I bought thisdress because I thought it was fashion forward not because it was going toflatter me. As I advance in my ownpersonal style, I am finding that sometimes style outweighs flattery. I also don’t want my body type or my size todictate by personal style. I am veryproud of the fact that with the strain of plus size clothing resources that Iam still very much able to dictate how I want to look.

Moving on, I picked up these sunglasses for my honeymoon, but I wasn't really in love with them which goes against my rule of not buying things that I am not in love with. I have been thinking for sometime to switch out the dark lenses for my clear prescription lenses. Eyemasters at North Park happily switched them out for me and I think these are my favorite new accessory and what is more great is that I can see too. LOL

I was so inspired by the collar area of this dress. A small detail that I really wanted to bring attention through keeping the attention of the of the eye from the neck up.

I didn't really mean to do it, but before I knew I had channeled my inner Emily or as most of us commonly know her as the "lady decorator friend" in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Though clearly out shined by Audrey Hepburn, I loved her style and she delivers the infamous line, I am a very stylish girl and she is!

Spring Forward

For some reason looking like a crossing guard isn't on the top of my list of things to do, but a lot things I scouted while shopping seemed like an interesting way to spark up my wardrobe.

Dallas Fashion Week Finale

I attended the finale night of Dallas Fashion Week 2012 and I must say I had a fabulous time. I attended three days of the events and I had the best time, so note that for next year. Tonight's event included a Red Ball Aids Awareness Benefit & Award Gala at the magnificent Texas Museum of Automotive History, hence the cars in the background.

Now for the outfit at hand. Wearing a tulle skirt is something that I never I enter into lightly. The thought about wearing a tulle skirt at the ripe old age of 31 had me doubting my ability to pull it off. It's a tricky thing to pull off without trying to look too costumey or like I'm 12 (seeing as I just bought my niece one for Christmas). I jumped into the challenge. I figured to approach the skirt in the most sophisticated way possible and this is the outfit I came up with.

There was also awesome networking at the event. I must shout out an avid reader, Adrienne, that I met at the Gala. She was so excited about my blog and even though she is not plus size anymore, (she lost 80 pounds) she still is a reader. I'm a regular girl who happens to record her life and style in a blog and it still amazes me that people are genuinely excited to meet "little ole me." It was so humbling to met her and she was super sweet.

Briefly, I wanted to share the next event that I'll be attending in Dallas. It's called Girls Bite Out and it's a dinner party with a purpose. All the proceeds go to the North Texas Food Bank. For more info click here.

The City Chic Mod Collection

I am really digging the City Chic Mod Collection. These dresses are too too cute. The only dress available for sale online is the blue, so City Chic go ahead and release the other dresses for purchase already...LOL. I haven't tried City Chic before, only because there wasn't anything that tickled my fancy. Well my fancy is definitely tickled now. I plan to try something this go around.

I only wish they would have photographed the dress better, so I can get the whole picture of the dress. They look adorable though. What do you think?

The Scarlett Letter

Tonight I attended the Dallas Fashion Week at The Black Academy of Art and Letters with Kiah from The Rez to the City & Isabel from The Dallas Fashion Calendar. The show included a plus size segment, so naturally I had to go. As the plus size segment was not in line with my personal aesthetic, it did allow me to get all gussied up. I must say that I am having fun at the events. I feel it's a rarity to go to fashion events in Dallas and it's nice to be among people who have a similar appreciation.

I think I might have found the most fabulous $40 red shoes in the world. Even though they were high and my feet hurt I made a commitment with them. Through the night we were together for better or for worse.

Short Hair, Don't Care

So today I chopped off my hair. I have been wanting to cut it sometime and the finally straw was when I felt like the cowardly lion this morning when I looked in the mirror. ♪ If I was king of the forrreeeeessst ♪ A special thanks to Kevin at Toni & Guy in NorthPark Mall who did an amazing job. I love it!

I also attended first ever Dallas Fashion Week. Tonight's event included a Bridal Fashion show at the House of Blues. I arrived late, so I didn't get great pictures, but tomorrow is the Plus Size Fashion Show. I definitely plan to get a good seat. I am really interested to see what is in store for that, so stay tuned and hopefully I will have good things to share tomorrow.

Going Mod at K Staton

So while in Baltimore, or Bmore, as my husband calls it, I got to visit K Staton boutique, which is in the swanky district of Hampden. K Staton caters to women sizes 12+ and really provides that first class shopping experience that is really hard to come by in plus sizes.

In the boutique, I saw designs from SWAK, MonifC, JIBRI, Not Your Daughter Jeans, Ladan's Closet, Spanx & much more. She also had very cute accessories. Needless to say it was not hard to spend do some shopping while I was there.

Jade, the owner, is an absolute doll. I actually met her for the first time at Full Figured Fashion week a couple years ago and was I just thought her personal style & look is gorgeous. She did not disappoint this time around either. She is just as pretty and stylish as she can be. I wanted to put her in my pocket she was so cute. And if there is nothing more that I hate is when someone owns a boutique and does not bring their "A game" in their own personal appearance. Like how are you going to help me shop if you look a mess. Oh by the way, I purchased my very first dress from Modcloth. I have gotten quite a few questions about the sizing and until now I had now idea how the items fit. I think the first thing to realize is that Modcloth uses different vendors for clothing, so the the fit may be a little different from brand to brand. I ordered this dress in a 4x, because the measurements seemed to be on the more like a continuation of regular sizes, which will always run small. Could I have went down a size? Yes, but by ordering the 4x I got a great length on the dress. On a dress like this if it were in regular plus sizes I would have ordered a 2x or a 1x if I squeezed...LOL. As a girl who loves the nautical trend this dress really allowed me to look as if "I'm cruising the high seas" in the winter.

Outfit Post: A CIROC New Year's Eve in D.C.

I am the only person who checks their makeup and hair after I get back home from a night of partying? I just want to insure that my look wasn't sabotaged from a night of dancing and perspiration. Just a thought. Anyways, I must say the sequin skirt I picked up from Igigi was quite snazzy. The skirt has great looking sequins & was complete with a non restricting lining. I knew beforehand that I would probably wear this skirt for NYE, so I had it altered a bit. I had the tailor sew up the slit in the back and take in the waist. Please note that this skirt runs big. I ordered a 22/24 and even after taking it in the waist was still a little big. I would recommend ordering one size down.

Anyways, my night consisted of partying in the Georgetown area of D.C. with friends. I spent my New Year's Eve at the lounge/restaurant Indulj (prounounced indulge) where I ate, drank, danced and was merry. I am a girl who rarely spends NYE in a club environment. I think I get intimidated from traffic, long lines, etc, but this was actually the most relaxed NYE's as far as the logistics were concerned. I took the subway, when we got to the lounge we were immediately seated, and the night progressed as we engaged in appetizers & spirits. Kudos to my friend who found such a stylish & incredible place to ring in the New Year at the last minute. Also, applause to my waiter, who although was on the tipsy side (which is to be expected), handled a our table & still seemed to have a good time regardless of the fact that he was working. In summary, the place was fabulous, there was a club area upstairs, the DJ was bangin' and I got my party on.

I must talk about the official drink for the night. One of my favorite people recommended that sip on a combination of Berry CIROC with a splash of Lemonade. First and foremost, I am a sucker for the CIROC commercials, they are so glamorous. But until this point, I had never tried CIROC. The waiter brought out our first rounds and it was delicious. The vodka is smooth & delectable & the lemonade just made it perfect. I think I have found my new favorite drink. Now you may want to know if this drink made me feel like the people in the Sinatra inspired commercial. Yes indeed it did. In my chic NYE attire, I felt dazzling. I am a sucker for a feeling.

Sidenote: Mr. Diddy did a fine job of product placement in D.C. CIROC gave out free NYE hats with CIROC on them to all the ladies. I said at dinner, "Look at Diddy's product placement." This literally sparked the whole conversation about the Berry CIROC & lemonade and the next think you knew that was our official drink for the night...LOL.

Who Shot J.R.?

So as am still not a big fan of Dallas, I must say that Dallas is home to one of the most luxurious and unique thrift stores that I have EVER EVER EVER been in. ARCHIVE is like a museum to all great designers. These clothes are from the era when the Gucci family actually owned and operated Gucci and the Coco Chanel actually designed for Chanel.

The LA Times says "Wading through this site is like perusing a museum exhibition on 20th century fashion... It's a thrill to navigate - each well-designed page looks as if it was ripped from a magazine."

So I asked the owner, how in the world do you obtain such pieces of history. She then paints a picture which sounds like a scene straight out of the show Dallas. Texas was once home to wealthy families who obtained their riches from "Texas Tea." She drew a picture of these wealthy socialites driving their Rolls Royce draped in diamonds, furs, and nothing less than the most luxurious designers. (I love to hear a glamorous story.) These women have gotten older and many of the pieces that they once wore have been sitting in their closets for years maybe even decades. This is where Archive comes in. I believe Archive has be the only vintage boutique in the U.S. with these types of pieces. I swear it's insanity.

I am not going to lie, owning a piece of history is gonna cost you a pretty penny...LOL. But would I love to own a piece...most definitely. The high end designer pieces can range from $250 to $1500, but Archive does carry some lower end vintage. I actually purchased a few pieces myself. The jewelry alone is worth the trip.

The UK's Guardian actually named Dallas one of the best places to shop for 1980s vintage.

The website does the boutique no justice at all. There are racks and racks of clothes to pick from...I promise. If you are a true lover of the art of fashion you have to visit this boutique when you come to town. It is a definite must see.

Alright get your mind out the gutter nasties...LOL. I did a little redecorating in my room this past week, all by myself. On Black Friday, my hunni & I bought a new mattress from Macy's. It's a Tempur Pedic memory foam mattress and I must say it is wonderful. Please note that it has to be broken in. It was very stiff when it was delivered. I have literally spent the whole weekend in bed luxuriating. Now my spot, at least, is nice and cushy. Anyways, I figured I'd share my handy work. Shoes Clues

Once upon a time there was a girl loved her heels. Four inch or five inch it didn't matter because in her mind it was always the taller the better. She loved running through the Atlanta night life and being able to look over the crowd. It was hard not to notice this 6'1 (in heels) girl at any party. Then one day the evil "good knee thieves" came and took her good knee away. Now she is left with flats and kitten heels and her impeccable & marvelous look is forever tarnished by the dastardly knee cap handicappers. So what does one do when you can't bear the pain of the highest of the heels.

My rules for searching for a shoe I can actually spend more than 15 minutes in:

1. Keep it under 3 - If there is no platform the heels I look for heels under 3 inches.
2. Look for Platforms - Platforms decrease the incline of the shoe. This can allow you wear a taller shoe.
3. Walking Flat Footed - Flats are always comfortable, I just try to find the most stylish flat I can.
4. Driving a Wedge - Wedges are a life saver, they aid in balance & comfort
5. Opt for a Daring & Sexy Color - Can get the heel height you want, opt for a bold color.

My Top 10 Most Stylish & Comfortable Shoes

1. Halston for Bakers - $65

At on $65 these shoes make are great for casual runs to the market, but they scream chic, expensive, & sophisticated.

2. Valentino Couture Lace Pump - $855 (Available at Neimans)

Probably the most seductive mid level heel I have ever seen. At a heel height of 2.5 inches this is probably as sexy and comfy you can get. Need a justification for such a hefty purchase. You know I have always got a shoppers excuse card handy. Us heel hindered girls, because of option restraints, don't buy as many shoes because of comfort. So calculate all the shoes you probably would buy and you will have your Valentino pumps.

3. Enzo Angiolini 'Killy' Sandal - $134 available at Nordstrom

Get a head start on Spring with this glittery little number. These scream chic but comfy party shoes that are guaranteed to highlight any Spring frock you plan on wearing. Added bonus - the girls will be envious of your obvious style and comfort as you dance the night away.

The hot pink color is positively flirtatious with a heel height of 2.5 inches. Add on as the unpredictable color in your ensemble.

Washing that Gray out of my Hair

So they say youth is wasted on the young and it is, but on this wonderful Thanksgiving one thing I am definitely thankful for is being alive, healthy, and blessed. And with being alive means getting older I guess that is just something I'll have to work with. Turning 31 (gosh is looks like such an old number) I have had to adjust to a few things: 1. Eyesight - no more 20/20 2. Gray hair - I have to figure out what kind how to wash this gray out of my hair 3. The ability of my body not reacting to bad diet choices. JIBRI just put out the most amazing collection ever. Besides wanting every piece from the collection, the JIBRI Holiday Collection has given us the most amazing fashion (plus or straight) EVER! (Sidenote: JIBRI is probably one of the reasons I can't lose weight. With clothes like this who needs to drop a few pounds. Apparently with this collection, I can have my cake and eat it too.) What is that Velvet?

One of the best lines in the movie, "Coming to America," is "What is that Velvet? And every time I see anything that is or looks like velvet that line either comes out of my mouth or runs through my head. If you would like to partake in that hilarious line in the movie, please see the youtube video below.

I through these flats were so fun. They have a crisscross elastic band making them look "so ballerina." They surprisingly came from Payless. Oh and the velveteen jacket that I picked up from Talbots is sooooo nice. It is so structured and the material feels great. It really has a rich look.

I love scanning the Nordstrom Rack shoes...I know there is going to be something there that I will like and that is in my size.

Birthdays, Bows, & Mad Men

So today I turned 25 today...again. I celebrated my birthday over the weekend with a shopping trip that my husband took me on. Unfortunately, this adult card that I have acquired doesn't care if its my birthday. So I went to work. But I came home to flowers, cake, balloons, and a multitude of wonderful facebook birthday wishes, singing voicmails, text messages galore. So thanks to all who wished me Happy Birthday. Even though I had to work it made my day better.

Moving on, I did a mini outfit post. The Mad Men Collection for Banana Republic came out in August and I loved and wished that I could fit into more from the collection. I ended up picking up this cream lace shell. It is so darling and just a dainty piece to add to your collection. Banana Republic has been one of my all time favorite places to shop, but as I have put on a few pounds the clothes are little harder for me to fit into.

My Teacher's Lounge Debut

My adventures in working today lead me to a magical place that one rarely gets to see...the teacher's lounge. As part of my work duties today, I had to go and visit a teacher and he took me into the teacher's lounge. I must say it was very cozy, inviting, and looked nothing like the school. It was almost like a mini Starbucks. Now it is all so very clear about why they won't allow children in their space. It felt like the perfect getaway from kids, school lunches, school restrooms (I visited one today and I can't believe I actually used to go to the restroom in a school. They are disgusting and smell of oldness). I actually would have like to have stayed and took a catnap.

Anywho, as I have been into buying Talbot's skirts lately, I picked up this wool skirt for $134. This skirt came in 31 inches in the women's sizes, but they were out of the skirt in my size. I ordered the petite skirt in 29 inches, because it looked like a fabulous skirt to have. I would have loved the 31 inch, but the 29 inch was fine. This skirt is made of a super soft, but light weight wool. Although a great material, the issue that I foresee having is the skirt getting stretched out of shape. These pics were taken at the end of the day and you see the bottom is a little stretched from me basically getting in and out of my car (I had a lot places to go today).

I was excited to purchase a 31 inch long skirt from Talbots. It's so hard to find a skirt with a good length, so when I saw that Talbots had a 31 inch skirt I jumped on it. The skirt is ponte and is really nice. I wish they had more colors. Now that I am seeing the skirt, the thing that I will probably change is have the skirt taken in at the bottom to make it more of a pencil fit. Other than that it's fabulous.

I was shopping for spirits and came across Pharrell William's feminine cocktail Qream. I was told from my online buddies that the drink had been out for some time. That's what happens when you lose your party pass, you the last one to know about the new cocktails. Anywho, the bottle was so pretty I said, "Ok Pharrell, I'll bite."

The back of the bottle states that:

I know I blogged on my wedding, but I wanted to share the pictures that were taken professionally. Stephanie Brazzle Photography (Dallas) was my photographer. Can I just say my mouth fell open when I saw these pictures. The pictures came out just like I wanted. They are so beautiful. Pictures were extremely important to me, because I wanted to look at the pictures and be able to relive our day. Stephanie totally did that for me. She was wonderful to work with, professional, and very accommodating. I spoke to her about angles for flattery, what angles I didn't want to be shot at, etc. She was dead on. I would definitely recommend her 1000 times over! Thank you Stephanie for everything!

JIBRI FALL 2011

Everyone knows I love JIBRI and I wear it often. When people ask me about it, I always say it's the best kept secret. I have yet to be in the same room with another girl and she has my dress on. Another critique of the line is that, for me, this line represents the girl who wants to be noticed, stylish, and classy. In my regular life, I can be on the quiet side and some even call me soft spoken. Wearing JIBRI speaks louder than I ever could. When I wear the line I feel the clothes can tell people who I am as a person without me actually saying anything. Whenever I wear JIBRI I get mounds of compliments that day....and what girl doesn't like a compliment. (Keeping it real moment)

So what will be on my shopping list from the collection. I thought I would share. Looks like it's going to be a bright winter.

I numbered them in order of favorite and the order in which I will buy them in...LOL. Two pencil dresses...phewww guys I'll be bringing out the big gun girdles for Fall/Winter. I don't mind too much since the extra layer keeps me warm. Dual purpose ladies...girdles are great for shaping you and for warmth...LOL.

Someone Please Help Me Zip My Dress

So my husband had to leave early for work, which left me by to my own devices try and zip up my dress. I don't have the luxury of long arms and the zipper did not have a hole in it so I could catch it with a (GASP) wire hanger...LOL. I knew I was wearing a cardi over the dress, so the back would not be exposed. I zipped up the dress as far as I could, threw the cardigan on, and trotted off in hopes that one of the girls at the office could help me. I ended up totally forgetting to ask someone and I ended up with my dress not all the way zipped up the whole day. Note to self: When hubby leaves early wear something that I can actually zip.

So I've had this skirt for probably about 3 years now, but it's a favorite in my closet and I am always pairing it with new tops so I can keep the look of the skirt fresh and new. It's always a bonus when you have something in your closet that is always stylish, but also rings in on the trend list for latest season.

My newest obsession is gel nails. They are fabulous and the colors are so rich. Gel nails actually combats two issues that I have. The first issue I am a habitual nail biter. I have been a nail biter as long as I can remember. The nature of the fingernail polish is so thick that it prevents me from biting as well as the sheer loveliness of the color. My second issue is that with a regular manicure I will start to chip in 2-3 days. I am a clumsy ogre of a person. I always running into something, dropping stuff, etc. A person like me always chips their nails. With the gel nail I can literally keep a fresh looking manicure for up to 3 weeks (my nails grow slowly too). I have never had long nails before. The gel manicure has actually allowed me to have nails! I am so excited. For those who haven't tried it. I have paid between $25 to $45 for the manicure.

Fashion Night Out

So I decide to mosey on into Neiman Marcus' Fashion Night Event at NorthPark Mall in Dallas. Festivities at FNO included a artist drawing people's portraits, a fashion show, and champagne cocktails. I had a great time, but I also got to covet some items that are on my birthday/Christmas list.

It's after Labor Day and I'm in a white linen blazer. You might ask what gives. Well I have certain rules that I follow for wearing white. The color and fabric should depend on where you live and your climate. I'm in Texas it's still in the 90s here, so it still feels and looks like summer. Which in my book makes it "A-OK" to wear white. I honestly don't think you have to exclude white from your wardrobe during the colder months, but I do think you should consider the fabric. Linen for me is definitely out when October 1st hits regardless of whether it's warm or not.

If you have recognized my accessories they are from my wedding. The bow and shoes were apart of my wedding look. I thought it such a shame to chuck to great pieces just because I wore them with my wedding dress. So with just a pair of scissors and a safety pin, I turned my wedding sash into a pin.

The Honeymooners

I thought I would share a few pictures from the honeymoon. There isn't any fashion pics because a lot of the things we did involved a swimsuit and clothes that you didn't mind getting wet. My husband has forbid me to put photos of him on the internet that involve him shirtless. He hates social media...LOL. This will probably be more of a review on where we stayed on our honeymoon and what we did in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Airport Love!

We stayed a Sivory in Punta Cana, which is a 4 diamond resort. It is called a boutique hotel, which from what I gather it means that the hotel accommodates a smaller amount of people. The resort environment was extremely private with very few people there. I think the whole time there might have been 10 other couples on the resort total.

Things I loved about the resort

The room was lovely.
Room Service was prompt and very courteous - We ordered about 90% of our meals through room service.
The beach was private
Because the resort accommodates less people premium pool spots were always available
The maid was fabulous --- She thoroughly cleaned everyday which is great when you are bringing in a lot of sand.
Pool side service --- in fact, the service was really great all the way around. The staff really went out of their way to make sure that we were happy.
The Sivory Plan, which is a set price that includes all your meals, room service, and laundry. The all inclusive plan we got meant that we didn't have to worry about transportation, food, or anything. We basically just showed up.
The best thing on the menu was the Dominican Flag meal. It was all traditional Dominican food, which to me tastes similar to Jamaican food. It was very tasty.
This resort is definitely a place for relaxation. There is not a lot going on, but eating, spa visits, and sunning. This is really ideal for honeymooners.

Fully stocked fridge with drinks, wine, & champagne all apart of the Sivory Plan.
Double headed shower and garden tub.

Things that I didn't love

The majority of everyone spoke Spanish which made it difficult to communicate...so please brush up on your Spanish before going.
Because of the language barrier I could not figure out how to tell the staff to cook my eggs hard. The whole trip we had runny scrambled eggs...it made us very unhappy...LOL
There was a hole in our couch... not very 4 diamondish.
The bed was hard as a rock. I actually slept on the couch one night.
I think there is a scarcity of ice --- I know I asked for ice a couple of times and didn't get it. I know all the ice was brought in (probably imported) and not from an ice machine because of filtering issues.
The pool lounge chair cushions could be replaced.
Since the entire property (in the tradition of the Caribbean) is open to the outdoor elements I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, which is the reason we ordered room service most of the time. Night time dining was made impossible by those mosquitoes. They gave you bug spray, but I got a leg full of bites that proves it didn't work. You will need to bring some kind of itch relief product.

We did a couple of the tourist type excursions. One excursion included driving speed boats, SNUBA diving, and snorkeling. I would not be telling the truth if I didn't say I had to be coaxed in to that SNUBA. That look on my face is the look of fear. I think we were about 25 feet down in the ocean. The whole underwater breathing thing takes some getting used too. There would be fish bumping into you and just acting like you weren't there. The lady who booked our trip wanted me to bring bananas to feed the fish in the water. I thought to myself, why would I want any fish big or small to associate me with food. I am a "Do Not Feed the Bears," kind of girl. Brian really enjoyed all the adventure and I think he he thought my fear was funny.

Our second excursion was exploring the island in Dune Buggies. I am not really sure why I thought this was a good idea. I guess I assumed we would be on paved roads....not so much. This excursion involved bumpy dirt roads and apparently splashing into mud puddles was supposed to be fun. Brian thought so at least. I personally was not happy at all. The excursion stopped at a place where they make cigars and the end of the tour went to a cave with water. That was the cool part. The water was about 25 feet deep. I actually swam in it for about 5 minutes just to say I did it. Brian was in there acting like it was his second home. The water was extremely cold and I could only think what was in that water that I couldn't see. I saw the movie Piranha...I just didn't want anything to bite my leg off.

You can see the muddiness from the dune buggies, it was so gross. The beach was beautiful though.

The airport in Punta Cana is completely open and outdoors. So this leaves it open for random animals to come into the airport. This cat was begging and just roaming around the airport. For you Dave Chappelle fans all he was missing was a soda. I wonder if he is violating any security rules at the airport.

First Comes Love...Then Comes Marriage: The Ceremony

I was told it was hard to round up good pictures from your wedding and well that is very true. But here are a few that I could scrounge up. With my wedding, I can say I was probably 95% happy with everything and 100% happy with my look. There is an issue of missing corsages that never got to the moms & grandmother.

The morning of my wedding I got my brakes changed....LOL. I couldn't sleep I was up at 6am and everyone else was sleep. The brake place opened at 7am and they finished my 9am, so everyone was up when I got home. My maid of honor texted me, who gets their brakes changed on their wedding day? It was almost like some alone time for me before all the chaos began.

I will do a post on the reception. With cake from Romanos Bakery, music from DJ AV, and the wedding venue was Ashton Gardens (with locations also in Houston & Atlanta). Everything did turn out beautifully and we each got the memories we wanted for that day. Everyone asks if you feel different being married and I honestly didn't think I would, but I do. The name change and forever concept is a real life changer, but I am truly excited to get to grow old with my life partner.

Anyway, this particular outfit wasn't a normal group of internet purchases I actually found most of the pieces, GASP, in the actual store! Isn't that crazy, I had almost completely given up on physical shopping, but the past few weeks has proven me wrong.

Okay, I want to boast a little bit about this jacket. This was one of those "fashion coming down from the heavens" kind of purchases. I'll explain. You know when the stars are all aligned, you are shopping, and you get the perfect item for the perfect price in your size. That is "fashion from the heavens." It doesn't happen often, but when it does it is freaking awesome!

Don't you love this print?! It's just so pretty. I have said it before and I'll say it again....a high waist skirt is a must in your closet. It is so easy to wear. I am up to 3 now....LOL.

The details of this jacket are just adorable. This is from Madonna's Material Girl Collection. It goes up to an XL and for the most part it is just very cute teenager clothes. There are actually a lot of oversized tops and a couple of cardis that I could see incorporating into my wardrobe. I was actually walking through the plus size section of Macys (thinking this stuff is hideous) and saw the bright and fun Material Girl section. So I just went over to look. The prices are very cheap as well. The jacket was originally only $34, but on sale for $20. And look....SMILE....it has lace detail. Everything is very 80s Madonna inspired. And here is a fun fact, Kelly Osborne is actually featured in the campaigns.

Outfit of the Day: Splashing around

I finally found my second swimsuit of the season through the suggestion of Reiko from God's Favorite Shoes. She was looking for a retro swimsuit and told me that she got hers from Wal-Mart. I decided to pick up one as well. I am always looking for ways to spruce up my one pieces since they can plain and boring. The linen blazer was a great way to to stylishly cover up up your swimsuit. Linen is a great summer fabric and I have thrown it over just about everything. And don't worry about how easily linen wrinkles...to me adds to the charm of the fabric. This blazer has probably been my most favorite and most worn items of the summer. I had the it taken in a bit on the sides to try to give it a little more shape, but overall it looks great with just about anything. The turban is a great substitute for the swim cap, but I wouldn't swim in it. It does give a sophisticated look and it can stylishly cover up any bad hair days.

On this particular swimsuit you have the option of tucking the straps and making it strapless. For bust challenged ladies like myself, the straps can actually add a little extra boobage...LOL. Another plus of the swimsuit was that the rushing skirt portion was only in the front. When you are hippy attached swimsuit skirt tend to ride up, this particular couldn't ride up because of the design.

Now one might ask, "do you really wear all those clothes when you go swimming?" Sadly, I do...ask my nieces and nephews. We went to the beach recently. I am a woman that loves to go overboard...LOL. Anyways, did anyone else have any great swimwear accessory finds this season?

Neiman Marcus has got me in the mood....

Its been one of those 100 degree weather week in Dallas, but Neiman Marcus has got me think of cool fall weather. Every summer I get the same feeling. I'm ready for change and new inspiration for the season upcoming Fall season. Neiman Marcus put out their trend report and I have been inspired by many of the pieces and I have composed my own personal mood board and pieces that will inspire my fall purchases.

Oscar de la Renta Tie Waist Leather Full Skirt - $2690, Gucci Fur Scarf - $2600, Donna Karen Shearling Draped Cuffs - $595,

LEATHER - I love this high waist flare skirt in leather. With leather I would be afraid of getting hot and I am even more afraid of perspiration that might accompany wearing such a material. The flare structure of the skirt actually give breathe-ability to the material, so this is definitely a piece that I will be keeping my eyes peeled for.

FUR - It's so pretty and soft, but it my conscious says NO! Besides a fashion lover, I am also a animal lover. I have a rescue dog that is special needs...she pretty much doesn't walk in a straight line. So what does one do when all she wants is to drape herself is a fur stole or a luxurious muff. There is always the option of faux fur, but generally is looks cheap and as we discussed before...even if something was cheap in price it should not look cheap. My solution is buying vintage or thrifted fur. In my mind, I feel like I am not contributing to the supply and demand and an animal didn't die for me. They died for somebody else. I'm not sure if that logic makes sense...but it does to me.

A little leopard anyone? I ran out to dinner with my fiance and decided that I was feeling my inner lioness. I have worn this skirt 1000 times, but I think it poses a great lesson in buying a timeless piece that you can wear every year, season to season. Anywho, I was trotting off to get my favorite fish tacos from Rockfish.

I think I am starting to get spoiled with ShoeDazzle. I got the most perfect nude pumps from them. I usually like to stick to certain rules when buying cheap shoes and thought I would share with you ladies, since I have apparently being riding the ShoeDazzle train frequently. .

If your shoes are cheap, they shouldn't look cheap. The key to buying cheap shoes is good taste. If I go for a shoe that is supposed to be leather, faux patent leather is the safest and looks almost identical to real patent leather. The next in line is faux suede. I think faux suede looks cheap, but looks like real leather from a distance and because people aren't going to have their eyeball that close to your shoes it is still "getawayable." Faux smooth leather is just awful. I can spot them from a mile away and so can everyone else.

Keep it simple. The shoes that look terrible are the elaborately designed shoes made out of substandard material. The insane shoe is usually a knock-off and for the most part those look terribly cheap. Go for a simple design.

Stay away from the rhinestones. In 2011, I still see people wearing shoes with rhinestones......WHY!?!?! If you just have to have some sparkle try glitter shoes instead.

Canvas is consistent. Shoes made out of canvas, expensive or not, almost never looks cheap.

Get your cheap shoes repaired. I see it all the time...the girl in the shoes that have (GASP!) turned over. I think I am starting to get spoiled with ShoeDazzle. It doesn't matter how much your shoes cost if you love them get them repaired. I usually get my shoes re-heeled and re-soled. It's actually amazing to what shoe repair guy can fix. Your shoes should never do the gangster lean.

Don't over wear your cheap shoes. Just like cheap clothes....your shoes can lose their luster and can quickly look run over. Wear them sparingly.

Get your size! I have seen girls in Christian Louboutin with their toes hanging over the shoe and it makes the shoes look horrible and cheap. Get your toes off the ground by purchasing your correct size. If they don't have your size then that means you don't purchase. Your feet will thank you.

The Power of the Dress

The week’s recap of Say Yes to the Dress is bitter-sweet for me. This past Friday the season finale of the show aired, so this is my last week recapping each week’s episode. L The show gives an extremely honest portrait of a curvy bride’s apprehensions, anxieties and the pressure to pick the perfect dress. But the “sweet” part of this coming soon….just wait on it. So before I start shedding tears, I will move on to this week’s recap.

Zaneta wants a sexy, flirty dress that embraces her curves - just like she does.

Virginal, Zaneta, wants to wear a white dress to go with her “pure” relationship. She finds a nice option, but doesn’t want to compromise wearing the white dress that she wants. A wedding dress is probably the most expensive dress a woman will purchase. The bride shouldn’t have to compromise on specific features of the dress that are most important to her. Zaneta didn’t compromise and got the white dress that she wanted and deserved.

Alyse is a full-figured bride who has always felt overshadowed by her younger sister.

My personal philosophy has always been to never compare yourself to others or you will always come up short. Alyse has felt like she isn’t as beautiful as her sister. I must say that her is sister is really pretty, but there will always be some prettier, smarter, and appear to be more fabulous than you. I think the best thing to take away from Alyse’s story is to be the best you you can be. Meaning, look the best you can look and you’ll be fabulous no matter what.

It's a bittersweet moment for Rheagan when she arrives to her dress fitting.

Super sweet Rheagan is missing her late father in the final fitting of her gown. Situations like this always get me teary eyed. It’s always tough when a important person in your life has passed away and can’t be there for your special day. On a positive note, I did want to talk about Rheagan’s fitting as well. I, personally, did not know that brides go through many fittings before their dress is finally done. Personally, I may go through 3 – 4 fittings before the dress is complete with alterations. Depending on what you want done to the dress expect $200 - $400 in additional alterations. I almost choked when the alterations lady showed me the bill.

Does Size Matter?

Camille and Randy face the challenge of finding Katy a dress that will both fit and flatter.

Katy definitely had very definitive ideas on what was going to look good on her body type and what would not. It is always good for a bride to know what looks good on her body type and what does not. This will give your bridal consultant at least an idea of what silhouettes to try and get you headed in the right direction.

Misty is looking for a gown that will make her feel beautiful for the first time in her life.

Doubtful Misty was sure that she would not be able to fit into any of the samples at Kleinfeld, but much to her surprise she was able to try on gown after gown. Curvy brides: I encourage you to do your research while searching for that perfect wedding dress. A lot of bridal salons are starting to carry larger sample sizes and can offer you the same experience that they offer to their smaller sized brides. It’s up to you to do your research and call around to see who can accommodate your curves!

With a forty-six G cup, voluptuous bride Niema visits alterations.

Niema is definitely a woman who knows what she wants. Niema’s story was definitely a great lesson in making sure your dress is 100% to your liking. Niema bought a $4000 dress, but then made extensive alterations to the dress. The seamstress constructed sleeves, so that she could give Niema’s bust the support the bride needed. Niema also wanted to make sure the shape of the dress flattered her. She instructed the seamstress to change the shape of the bottom of the dress into a more form fitting silhouette. With all the alterations this dress carried the price tag of $12,000. The lesson here is: You can definitely do significant alterations to your bridal gown, but it’s going to cost you!

Speaking of alterations, does anyone have extensive alterations done to their gown like Niema?

Outfit of the Day: Swimsuits & Handbags

So this is the last post I will do on Vegas, but I left out a couple of things. This is the swimsuit that I bought from Norma Kamali for Walmart for a mere $26! I love it, it fits great! I added a little hot pink belt to give it some color. I have been wanting to try the belted swimsuit look. The belt is actually Forever 21 and I paid less than $3 for it, which is really good because you definitely don't want to submerge a leather belt into water. This belt had a patent leather look and was pretty much plastic, which made it perfect for the water.

Oh and I can't believe I forgot to mention the freaking shopping in Vegas! OMG! The Las Vegas Premium Outlet is magical. They have every major designer's outlet there with fabulous merchandise and even more fabulous prices. If you are a girl who love high end fashion and snazzy things then (take my word for it) the next time you are visting Vegas make time to visit the outlet. I only had an hour to shop, but I definitely took advantage. I came out with two Kate Spade bags. Both totally $231. I also picked up a top from Banana Republic for $30. As a long time BR shopper, I was so amazed at the outlet prices. Everything was so cheap!!!

Anywho, I usually buy two swimsuits every year and I did this year, but one was an EPIC fail. With us well into the summer, where did you ladies get your swimsuits this year?

Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss...Mommy Dearest

The Mom Factor

This week’s episode addressed “The Mom Factor.” It is important to any girl that her mother be present while searching for her wedding dress. The absence of your mom can be sad, as well as make you second guess your decision to pick a certain dress. The “mom stamp of approval” can give a bride the confidence to say yes to the dress.

Grace is a stylist and a self-described fashionista, so she feels confident that she can find a dress, even without her mom.

Fashionista, Grace, definitely recognizes her body type and was very comfortable in her skin. The dress on the left made her look like (in her words) like she had two junks (referring to her derrière). In her confidence, I love that she still recognized that doubling the size of any part of her body is not a good idea. Grace found a dress (right) she wanted to “say yes,” to, but the absence of her mother made her second guess her decision. She didn’t end up buying a dress that day.

Morgan describes her mother as the most opinionated, and hopes to get her final approval.

Morgan definitely valued her mother’s opinion at the fitting. She wanted her mother to love the dress that she picked, but she also wanted to feel the same. The fact that nearly all of bridal dresses are sleeveless was a huge concern. This bride has the concern that a lot of women do…her arms! As a stylist, I run into women all the time who avoid showing their arms. In everyday clothes, it is easy to conceal your arms, but in bridal it is almost impossible. Nearly all bridal gowns are strapless or sleeveless. If you just can’t wear your arms out on the big day, an easy option is to add a bolero. A bolero is a short cropped jacket that can be easily added to most wedding gown.

Jennifer is "heartbroken" at her fitting.

Jennifer really wanted her mother to be there for the final fitting of her dress. The great thing was that her mother was there for her when she chose the dress. Here is a comforting thought for those brides that could not have their mothers present on their fitting day…the first time your mother will see you in your dress will be on your wedding day. That definitely has a magical element to it.

I think bride should really evaluate if they can pick a bridal gown without their mother. If you don’t feel that you can, wait until your mother is available. Another great way to involve your mom (if the bridal boutique will allow) is to take pictures of the dress that you want to pick. With distances and schedules separating us from our mothers it is sometimes hard to be able to coordinate for a fitting. The great thing is that regardless of whether your mom can be there or not, she definitely would love to be there and that is what counts.

OOTD: Hangover Part II...Sequins Anyone?

So Saturday night in Vegas was filled with a slew of events from a limo ride, dinner, clubbing and a night at the male review, Thunder from Down Under. Because these particular shows aren't my thing I really wasn't expecting to have a great time. And although I do not kiss and tell...I will say this...I had a great time and I would definitley go back. It is a definite must for Vegas or any girl's bachelorette party...and that's all I am going to say about that.

Now to my outfit at hand. Since this was one of my last single girl weekends...I figure I should go all the way with it. I have officially named my high waist sequin leggings my "milkshake" pants....LOL. The leggings are JIBRI and cost a pretty penny, but honestly I couldn't have had a more perfect centerpiece for my outfit. I would have paid double, for real! Especially since they were custom made to my measurements. When I got these in the mail I was literally screaming because they were so amazing! These leggings fit me like a glove and there are even inside panels without sequins between the thigh (that you can't see) to ensure that I did not rub out the sequins. These are the absolute BEST pair of pants I have ever owned. I actually had another top in mind to wear, but sometimes when a piece is so fabulous it is best to keep it simple. I didn't want pieces to be competing with each other. I paired it with my David's Bridal Strapless top & a pair of ShoeDazzle wedges. I must say that the ShoeDazzle "Mulberrry" shoes were very comfortable and easy to walk in even though they are really high.

Obsessed With the Dress

Ahhh…the bride who wants a themed dress: this is definitely one client that is hard to accommodate for any stylist, but a themed bridal gown is that much more difficult. When a person has a picture of how they would like to look, be it bridal or anything else, it can really difficult to turn that into reality since the stylist cannot be in the bride’s head. You will need a combination of factors to turn your dream into a reality.

• Be open to accessories to complete your look. Everything is in the details, so adding a headpiece, sash, etc. that is inspired by your theme can help you to achieve your look.

• Have an open mind to try on different types of looks. Instead of looking for a dress that looks exactly like, for instance, Cinderella’s dress, look for a dress with similar features. An exact replica of anything will be hard to find.

• When buying that themed bridal dress, think about what will be flattering on you. Sometimes the themed wedding dress may not be flattering on your body type. Don’t fret because variations exist in different cuts.

Megan has been obsessed with being Cinderella and getting married at Disney.

Disney-inspired bride Megan, wanted the Cinderella gown. The silhouette of the Cinderella gown would have not been flattering for her body type. It would have been too voluminous. Megan found an inspired Cinderella gown that was a drop waist with fewer layers of tulle. I love that Megan was willing to get her dream gown, but made a choice flattering for her body type.

Emille is a 40s pin up style bride who is having a Mexican 'Day of the Dead' themed wedding.

Pin-up girl Emille really wanted a 40s inspired gown complete with lace and 40s glamour. Emille really had the idea of what she wanted to look like and I think she accomplished it in the dress on the left. It seemed that she really loved the dress, but hated the way it revealed her stomach. I feel like Megan gave up on the dress way too soon. Her stomach was exposed in the dress, but you could barely see it. This tells me that if she had the right foundation or girdle on, she could make her stomach disappear. Ladies, it is so important that you have on your best girdle while you are searching for that perfect dress. It can, honestly, make or break your decision on a dress. For Emille, I would have recommended her to have on a high waist girdle with boning in the waist area. That would have smoothed out the stomach area and made all the difference. Emille didn’t leave Kleinfield with a dress that day.

Victoria has lost sleep over whether she's made the right dress purchase.

I am so sympathetic to Victoria. When you have purchased a dress that you have not seen for 9 months it can cause you to question your decision. “Did I buy the right dress?” It’s a question that rings in the minds of many brides, including myself. The best way to deal with this is to buy a dress that you love! Don’t settle for something you only semi-like. Another thing is once you have found that dress, all wedding dress shopping must cease. With a million bridal dresses out there you will always find something else you like, but why mess up the magic you had with the dress you decided on?

OOTD: The Hangover, Part I

I am fresh from Vegas and really feeling the pain of recovering from an crazy weekend. So while everything that goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas...the outfits do get to leave. With a 4 day, 3 night trip, I carefully planned out each day and it's outfits. If you have never been to Vegas before there is a A LOT of walking, cocktailing, partying, and not to mention the fashion & shopping!!!! We partied at Marquee, a club located in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. We had a great time. And here is a tidbit...we went on Friday night. The main room was techno (I personally can only take about 2 techno songs in a row), but if you venture down a few flights of stairs they do have a hip hop room. Check it out! We had a blast. Oh and that is a garter around my ankle...LOL.

Yeah! International Curvy Girls this is another post for you on plus size dresses. You guys know I looooooovvvvveeeeee dresses. I hate how ill fitting and restricting pants can be. Dresses give you the ease of movement and if you pick the right style can be ridiculously flattering.

The Plus Size Dresses site is like an online directory of curvy girl dresses in the U.K. When I came across the site, I was immediately hit by the Anna Scholz dresses. They are fabulous looking and fabulously prices. Did anyone know that Anna Scholz did an economical line plus size. My favorite is the spotted maxi dress. I may have to snatch one of these up. One of my most popular posts was on shape wear & foundations. Since I get so many questions on fashion & shape wear from my International (especially the U.K.), I decided to a couple of posts just for you guys. Magic Knickers has some of the prettiest shape wear and lingerie that I have ever seen. I always say what you wear under your clothes is just as important as what you wear on the outside. For my bustier ladies Magic Knickers bras go up to a size 58 or a cup size L. They also carry all the foundations I spoke about in my post on foundations, including slips, tanks, high waist panty (my personal favorite), and waist cinchers.

Hi ladies! With my own crazy wedding plans and upcoming bachelorette weekend in Vegas I haven’t had the time to post. I am, however, excited to share with you pictures from the bachelorette weekend! Now on to this week’s episode of Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss.

Public Service Announcement: We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to let you know this: Planning a wedding and finding that special dress is especially stressful. If you are a friend chosen to help the bride find her dream dress, remember that wedding related activities are about the BRIDE. During this episode, I heard a lot of “I wants” from people other than the bride. Your opinion is appreciated, but there is a fine line between giving your opinion and imposing your reign of tyranny. Now on to the regular scheduled programming.

Girls, Girls, Girls

Jasmine wants to please the whole group, but claims that she'll go against her ladies.

Spicy Jasmine wants to find a gown that her fiancé as well as her family will love. She actually finds a beautiful gown that had a major snafu while she tried on the gown. I felt so bad for Jasmine. The zipper actually broke on one of the dresses she was trying on. GASP! No one wants to break a zipper on the dress, especially a plus size girl. Here are a few coping techniques for such an event: 1. It happens, even to the skinny girls. 2. Most bridal shops have seamstress on staff that can easily fix the dress. 3. It’s a sample, and will have wear and tear from the many try-ons. 4. And finally, the dress attendant broke it, not you. She knew she should have stopped and clamped it instead, but she just kept on going…LOL ;).

Sam's goal is to find a gown that she loves, and one that all of the sorority sisters will agree on.

Beautiful Sam brought four of her best sorority sisters to help her to pick a wedding dress. With a group of women this large there is bound to be at least one member that is going to have a strong opinion. Friend, Leslie, was that girl. Whether the really opinionated friend is right is usually a tossup, but I must admit, Leslie was dead-on with her assessments. The way the back of the dress fits and looks is just as important as the way the dress looks in the front. While you are at the altar everyone will literally be staring at your back. The first dress Jasmine tried on was extremely beautiful in the front, but the back left much to be desired. It made her butt look really long, square, and flat. No one wants the pancake booty on their wedding day. When thinking of how your butt should look, think “lovely lady lumps”, and that goes for anyone regardless of body type. The derrière should look more round and curvy, which can be accomplished by trying on different silhouettes and finding one that works for your body type.

Jeanine is worried her friend Stephanie may have a panic attack.

Jeanine was super nervous about not fitting into her dress. She confessed that she had been dieting, as most brides do. (I am only down a lousy 10 pounds). Tip: It is wise to buy your dress 9 – 12 months in advance, so that you can allow time for the dress to be made, shipped, and tailored. Now, you are probably thinking “that gives me 9 – 12 months to lose weight, right, so should I purchase the dress in the size I think I might be?” WRONG! Purchase the dress in your current size and have your bridal shop tailor down your dress to your current measurement. It is always easier to go smaller than to go bigger. Attaching yourself to a size, meaning the actually numerical digit, can get you into trouble. Thinking, “I have to order a dress in a size ___,” can leave you with an ill-fitted dress. Instead, order a dress that fits the largest part of your body and have it tailored down.

BONUS TIP: As you may or may not know, a lot of bridal gowns can be made to accommodate up to a size 30. As you are planning your budget please note the upcharge on plus size gowns. Because of the extra fabric you could possibly be looking at paying an additional $200 - $500. So remember to factor in amount for the additional sizing surcharge.

Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss...Curvy Style Recap!

So he liked it… put a ring on it… and now you have to find a dress for the big day. Oh the woes of the curvy girl trying to find a wedding gown when most shops don’t carry samples in your size. Being a bride-to-be myself, this has caused me much anguish & anxiety, but I found my dress and now I am here to help you find yours. Some of you saw on Twitter (@garnerstyle) that I have partnered with TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss. The Big Bliss shows are about women sizes 14+ who go the famous Kleinfield store in NYC. It is probably one of the few stores that carry both straight & plus size sample sizes. Every Tuesday I will be recapping each week’s episode, giving styling tips for the big day and recommendations for how to shop for a wedding dress… curvy girl style! Now on to our first week’s recap…

May 20th Episode Title:

The People Closest to You...

One of my favorite themes of this week’s episode was the support that I saw from each bride’s family and friends. I have watched many bridal dress shows and sometimes the opinionated family & friends can be more of a distraction than help. Tip #1: Choose the people you bring with you while you hunt for your dress VERY carefully. This is YOUR time and you don’t need any extra added stress from people who think their opinions reign supreme (you know the person I’m talking about). I know there are some people that you can’t leave at home, but this is a great time to work on your diplomacy skills. You can appease the more aggressive opinionated family member by trying on one dress that they suggested. Get it out of the way early, so you can focus on what you are really looking for in a dress.

“Brittany wants a ball gown but her family is afraid it will make her look like a cupcake.”

Tip 2: Bigger is not always better. Oh my goodness when I heard ball gown I thought to myself, “EEK!” I don’t want to say that ball gowns are out for the plus size bride, because there are always exceptions to every rule, but a ball gown skirt can be very problematic. Ball gowns are usually very voluminous and can add a lot of bulk to the body. You can become engulfed by this humungous dress, especially if you are petite like Brittany. One thing I liked about Brittany was that she appeased “team mermaid” by trying on a mermaid gown even though she knew it would probably not be best for her body type. By the way, the first gown she tried on had to be probably the hardest to wear for the plus size body. The gathering right underneath the stomach is just an epic fail in my opinion. Even the curvy girl with the flattest stomach still has tummy enough that the brooch and gathering could make her look pregnant. Brittany’s final pick was beautiful and she still had a bit of the princess-y look, but the fit kept her from looking like a cupcake.

“Cari is using her appointment as a time to bond with her long lost half sister Cynthia.”

Tip 3: Fit is always key. It saddened me that Cari was trying to hide her body underneath an A-line skirt. On your wedding day you should be glamorous to say the least. Hiding your body in everyday clothing isn’t flattering and so the same rule should be applied when choosing wedding gowns. You want to accentuate the parts of the body that you like on your wedding day. I especially love the shape that Cari gets from the ruching of the gown. Ruching smoothes and can help to create a curvy silhouette.

“Romance wants to find a gown that will "knocks her fiancé's socks off."

Tip 4: Wear your hair similar to the fitting. When searching for such an important dress you should come to the fitting with a similar look. For instance, Romance’s hair was up and short. I assume that her hair was a wig. In her actual wedding photos her hair was up (or off of her neck as well). Romance also showed up with make-up on. She didn’t show up being overly made-up or with this grand updo, but she did set the stage for her look for her actual wedding. Sometimes dresses can look different with different hairstyles & make-up. I’m saying all this to say don’t go searching for your dress looking like you just rolled out of bed. It could distort your own image of yourself in the gown that you try on.

As I watched the show it was obvious that the dresses that fit closer to the body were much more flattering on all three ladies. I think one of the best ways to pick out what kind of style dress will look best on you is to think about your favorite outfits, especially your dresses, and why they work for you and your body type.

Outfit of the Day: The Body Shop & Fonzworth Bentley

Before I went to the DFW blogger meetup Saturday, I was getting ready to leave and my hunny took a look at me and he proceeded to tell me that I look like Fonzworth Bentley and then handed me an umbrella and started humming the song "I like the way you move," by OutKast....LOL. I was cracking up all the way to the North Park Mall. I decided to try a little color blocking with my outfit....and low and behold I actually am wearing a piece from Forever 21 plus size line. I have vowed against such a thing because I am...well...far from 21 years old and the line also reminds me of Wet Seal and I feel it is too young for me. But I saw something I liked and decided to try. The sweater is really nice and thick. I must say I am actually surprised at the quality for only $22. Who knew?!? I probably wont be a regular shopper, but a piece every now and again probably won't hurt.

Anywho, Elissa from Dress with Courage hosted a blogger meetup at The Body Shop. I must say I was really excited, because I knew a lot of "smell goods" & "girly creams" were gonna be in full effect and they WERE! The Body Shop showed us a good time with plenty of free samples and discounts. They have so many great products it was hard to restrain myself. So I ended up spending quite a bit at The Body Shop. What on? I am glad you asked. I got a new skin care regiment recommended to me by the store manager, Brian. I am also innnnnnn looooovvvvveeee with the Bronzer section. Anything you want to have that much coveted summer glow. The products smelled so good and because everything is made from natural ingredients it makes it even better for your skin.

One thing I was super impressed with The Body Shop was the orgins of their ingredients. They are all natural. They actually buy their ingredients directly from small farmers from countries all over the world. I love companies that obtain their products with integrity and respect for all involved. That is one reason I am a Chipotle fanatic (all of you that follow me on twitter know this). The Body Shop also is host to a "Stop Sex Trafficking" Campaign in the United States. They hope with petition signatures they can get laws on the books to better prosecute sex traffickers. You can sign the petition in the store and with you signature you get $5 off of you purchase. Win/Win right!?! But in all seriousness, I watch the documentaries on sex trafficking of young women & children and its one of the most horrendous crimes.

On a lighter note, I love having a summer glow. My favorite bronzer is from The Body Shop. It gives me great color, it doesn't make me breakout, & smells good. Where do you buy some of your favorite bronzers for the summer?

Rest in Peace Miss Mia Amber

I never post about about plus size models. My blog has always just been about fashion and not the bodies that model them. Today, I feel compelled to post about the death of the plus size fashion industry's most influential icon, Mia Amber. I will start off by saying I don't know Mia Amber. I have worked with her on a couple of occasions through fashions shows and what not, but I cannot say I know the person that she is. This post may be really random, because my thoughts are in a disarray right now. It's hard to pull them together.

I guess I start by explaining my connection to Mia and what she represents for me. 2005 I started off in the plus size industry. It was relatively new and a very small community where everyone knows everyone. I have crossed paths with the likes of Gwen Devoe, Maddy from Plus Model, Monif Clarke from MonifC, etc. Though many of them have been in the industry longer than I we experienced the boom of plus size around the same time. We have all knew what we wanted to do and branched off in different directions to do it. I guess in a way we are family...we may not all get along at times but we all have a very mutual respect and admiration for each other's craft and position in the plus size world. This is where Mia comes in. Though I don't know her I still feel like she is family. She is the iconic figure that every plus size model wanted to emulate including myself. I mean she is the face of the modern plus size industry as we know it today.

It is very hard to say goodbye to her and I can't help thinking that in her death I am confronted with my own mortality. Mia and I were around the same age. She was the top of career and honestly nobody could touch her and what she represented. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, but also with people like MonifC. Mia was the face of clothing line. To Gwen Devoe, Mia was her muse. Mia was a lot to so many people. She represented hope to many aspiring plus size woman that a woman of real size and stature could be considered beautiful. I have a heavy heart today...I hope this post makes sense, but if it doesn't I'm sorry. I am just so very confused and shocked today. I could go on and on about what she represented...my throat just tightens as I think about this. I'm going to pull back now.

To Mia, I know you are in a better place. To her family & friends, you are all in my prayers the world has truly lost someone great.

Outfit of the Day: The Sound of Music

Maybe I'm into movies these days. I seem to find inspiration from some of my favorite movies of all time. I evoked my inner milk maid (inspired from The Sound of Music) for this look. I was invited to a fashion show that was to help raise money for Hugging Hearts an non-for-profit organization geared to educate and promote awareness of HIV AIDS and other STDS to the age group 12 -18 for those whom has either been infected, affected or in risk of being infected by the disease. As I do love to dress up, I thought this would be a great time to try out my new silk dress from JIBRI while trying a new updo...all while supporting a great cause. This hair style was super easy. I just parted my hair into two sides, braided each side and pinned them in place. I added my Jessica Simpson bangs to bring the look together.

I think next time I try this hairstyle, I will try to do the style a little messier like Zoe Saldana & Sienna Miller below. Their braids are so pretty.

Braided hairstyles are very on-trend for this year. When my fiance saw this hairstyle I can't say that he liked it. I think after seeing me dressed the hairstyle grew on him. I actually questioned whether the hairstyle was for me, but I really liked it after I stared at myself for about 30 minutes. It also was great way to keep my hair nice and neat. Sometimes trends can be 'iffy' on whether they can work for you or not. What other 'iffy' trends do you want to try this year, but maybe are a little scared to try?

Could We Get Chic Designer Collections at Target?

Did Target hear our curvy girl cries for chic designer fashions? I was cruising the Target website and saw the Calypso Collection. This collection is offered online only to all sizes, including plus size and petites. The collection is centered around resort wear. Now, I am not overwhelmed with the colletion, but I will say this --- could this be a clue that Target may start to extend their swanky Designer Collections? Maybe even offer Target coupons for them, too? Maybe....just maybe, they will start to offer the cute pieces that are in the misses department in the women's department as well.

I have heard a little chitter chatter about such a thing. I try not to get too excited because there is no telling how long such a thing will take to get on the racks of Target, but it may be closer than we think. Remember the letter that bloggers had going around on their blogs urging Target to extend their GO! International Designers Collections to plus sizes. I thought I would share some of my deductive reasoning with you guys. Could this be a test run? The questions have been swirling in my head.

Here are some of the pieces that I liked from the collection. Again, it is a resort collection. I think I may pick up a a couple of pieces. I could definitely see myself wearing some of these pieces on my honeymoon.

I think it may be a navy blue summer. I keep finding myself buying navy blue. I am so attracted to this color this year. Last week I purchased a navy blue and white retro bikini as well. I'm crossing my fingers that the swimsuit works out. Someone please kindly tell me to stop if it just gets ridiculous. I usually have this issue with leopard prints, but I guess I've graduated to navy blue. Anyways, this Saturday Elissa from Dress with Courage put together a meetup for the DFW Bloggers. The day started at Ann Taylor Loft. They actually opened the store up 1 hour early for us to shop with 40% off. I am a fan of the Ann Taylor brand, but I did kindly leave my store card at home...Im trying to learn restraint. I picked up a couple of pieces.

So one of my favorite movies is Pretty in Pink. My favorite characters were, of course, Molly Ringwald as Andy and James Spader as Stef. Stef was totally gorgeous, but was just a horrible human being. He had the feathered bangs, the linen suit, and swag...LOL. Hats off to the actor for making me love him and hate him at the same time. You may remember Stef was trying to get with Andy and she totally rejected him. But what if Stef and Andy's style got busy... I know this is so random. But today's outfit was inspired by Andy & Stef. I think if their styles had a baby it would look something like this outfit. Or in the modern term Stefandy (in the tradition of Bennifer & Brangelina).

One of my favorite things about Easter is seeing little girls in their prettiest dresses. This Easter I saw much more than that. At this time I will be stepping on my soap box. Ladies, we must do a check before we leave the house. My fiance and I were sitting behind two young ladies at church and shockingly saw a girl in a dress that was so transparent that you could see her thong and 'gasp' entire BEHIND! BVal (his nickname) & I looked at each other at the same time and nodded that we had just both saw the same thing. This girl's thong was light blue with lace trim and she had approximately 5 dimples in each cheek. Why should I know this? I know that slips seem to be old-fashioned, but I will say you should have one on hand...just in case. I wear them from time to time myself. With my white dress today, I had some panty action going on so slipped my nude undergarment and 'POOF' problem solved. She had a friend with her and I know she saw it...some friend.

I guess this poses a question of, are slips so old fashioned that most women don't own them anymore? Do you have one?

This dress was actually held hostage by a friend of mine for almost a year. The dress screamed Autumn to me. I thought to myself can I really wear this very Autumn feeling dress in the spring? But when I tried it on it felt very Boho so I said what the hay!

I mentioned in the VLOG that a did a huge haul of pieces from JIBRI when I made my Atlanta visit. With a lot of coaxing she allowed me to interview and even take pictures of her in her natural habitat. I got to view one of kind pieces not available on her website (I even got to purchase a one of kind piece), her fabric room, and her total operation.

As an added bonus, I ventured out with Jasmine of JIBRI for a little fabric shopping. It was wonderful. There were so many beautiful fabrics. I saw this one fabric that I was in love with that she bought. I literally dreamt about the dress that she described to me that she would make. Needless to say the next morning I ordered it...hence the effect of JIBRIcrack. Some people are addicted to other things, but my drug of choice is JIBRI...LOL

So I literally met you about 5 years ago as a model. I, personally, can see the huge changes from your 1st collection to the your current collection. How has JIBRI changed, in your eyes, in the past 5 years?

JIBRI has grown from a dream to a reality. When I look at all the dresses that I've designed, I can't believe it. JIBRI is sold all over the world now. I'm so grateful for that. I was the odd kid in the crazy costumes. Now I'm a designer for some of the most beautiful and elegant women in the world. JIBRI was my dream then and it's still my dream. :)

What is your absolute favorite dress that you have designed for JIBRI so far?

Hmmm...I think The Ultimate Grace is one of my all time favorites. I've seen necks snap for that one.

What was your inspiration for Spring?

Gold glitter, roller skates and sunlight. None of those elements were actually in the collection...but they were in my head as I worked. LOL

When designing do you think about trends for the upcoming season?

I probably should but I usually don't.

Does your work reflect your personal fashion taste?? Can you describe your style?

I would say yes. I was my first client. I was the protoype for the kind of woman that I thought would wear my pieces. I love all things glamorous but detest overly fussy pieces. I try to design pieces that complement the elegance and sophistication of my client. I want the room to see the woman...then the dress.

There is a fire. You have two minutes to grab three favorite items out of your closet. What do you grab?

My prom dress (designed by my mentor,JIBRI Mann), my Grandmother's jewelry box and a fabulous black dress. I'll have jewelry to float my looks! :)

Have you had any 'awful' or 'embarrassing' day job while getting your line off the ground?

I have had....25 + jobs since I was 14 and most of them were painful! LOL....I still can't believe I've had that many jobs but I guess I've never really bonded with a job because my love for creating was always so strong. The worst would have to be a call center job at a copy machine company. I literally was planning my Shawshank escape every millisecond of the day. Uggh...That job was the WORST!

So you know I couldn't leave without trying on a few things. I wish I had more times, there were literally racks and racks of clothes right in front of me. I tried to jack a couple of things and put them in my purse...but I didn't get too far. LOL IM KIDDING! I tried on the Samantha dress and the One Shoulder Rhapsody. I came away with the Samantha in the nude and green. Now I just have to figure out somewhere to go.

Anybody have any terrible jobs that they hated? --- I worked at Wal-Mart when I was sixteen. I got fired for sleeping in the supply closet. Don't judge me!

This Saturday I spoke on style at ChicFest. It was a fashion event complete with a fashion show, fashion & beauty vendors, a fabulous brunch, and wonderful mimosas (don't judge me). All this took place at Aloft Hotels (W Hotels) which a very chic hotel. I have never been before, but the ambience was totally fashionable. Below you can see what I wore. Sidenote: The high waist flare skirt from JIBRI is my new best friend. I just bought in navy blue and it the chicest yet easy to wear skirt EVER!!!! I plan on getting a few more in different colors to wear during the summer. If you take nothing else back from this blog, pick up this skirt. It is so fabulous, easy to wear, flattering, and comfortable it's insane.

Here are some of my favorite things I saw at ChicFest

At the event, I met Becky Henderson (pictured above in her work) of Lola Verde. I would describe her clothing line as romantic classics. The line consists of tops with these romantic, I would almost say Parisan inspired, floral embellished tops. My favorite thing about the shirts that the floral embellishments weren't cheesy, but sophisticated and chic. I am a girl who loves to wear a flower and I remember some of my flower pins from 8 years ago and I kind of shutter at how cheesy they were. My friends still laugh at me til this day. I was speaking with her and she says that her sizes go up to XXL and she can probably get larger sizes in needed. I definitely plan on picking up a top in the near future. The one I really liked was the razor back tank top with the black floral embellishment. The listed price is $40.

Ohh shoot check out the baby hair...LMAO. I'm kidding! Anywho, I actually won these earrings. I am not sure how, but I am not asking any questions. These are apart of the Ayo Design Studio's Feather Earring Collection. They are fabulous. I rarely wear hanging earrings anymore (not since night life Chas has been off the scene) but I may have to rejoin the large and fabulous earring club again. I'm not sure if you know, but my ears aren't pierced. I thought I was the only one, but I keep running into women who's ears aren't pierced, so I thought I would share. I have converted my earrings for years. I usually buy a pack of converters from craft stores or on Amazon for $2. These are even great for girls with pierced ears. I have seen girls where the heavy earrings and their ears split from the weight of the earrings (CRINGE) so this is a great solution to keep your whole in tact.

Ooops I almost forgot. So I totally have to give the inspiration for this outfit to Ivonne of IvonneStacyStyles. I met her at the DFW bloggers meetup and I absolutely love her style. I was infatuated with her outfit and I couldn't rest until I tried a version of it. So there you have it...an admitted outfit jacker...LOL.
